It was with great sadness, as a nation, that we bid our beloved Tata Nelson Mandela farewell. We will continue to celebrate his extraordinary life and the contribution he made to our Country with great pride. "A great tree has fallen and the sound reverberates across the rivers." - isiXhosa proverb.
Kwandwe has much reason to celebrate this coming festive season. Not only will we toast to the year gone by and to the one to come, we will also share with guests our victories over the past 12 years as we look back at our conservation initiatives, community activities and staff success stories since the inception of the reserve.
We would like to thank you all for your continued support and care. Wishing you and your families a blessed, safe and peaceful festive season!
Our brand new website which launched mid-November now contains great new features such as live availability on a grid system, clearly displaying when rooms are sold or available. We have also joined forces with Siteminder for online distribution and channel management. Members of the travel trade are able to book through the GDS/IDS (Amadeus, Sabre, Galileo/Apollo, Worldspan, Pegs ADS, Travelweb) under the chain code, WB, with live availability bookable immediately. Please contact Terence Duckitt for the applicable property codes.
This week the new Blue Crane Conservation Club launches, introducing an eco theme and new ‘see & learn’ activities to our kiddies safari programme. Apart from simply having fun whilst learning about the wildlife on the reserve, the aim is to teach young Kwandwe guests about green living. Fun new activities include a ‘Bugs & Bones’ walk, planting Spekboom on the reserve (to offset their own small carbon footprints), eco educational board games, Sand Art, Plaster of Paris mould making, and more!
On 1st December a choir competition was hosted at Kwandwe to kick off a month of festive season celebrations as well as mark World Aids Day. The event was attended by guests and staff alike, and even Santa made an appearance! A big thank you to everyone involved in making our Masicule (“Let us sing” in isiXhosa) day such a big success. A special congratulations to the Ecca Lodge choir, the winners of the day!
We celebrate the end of every year at the Mgcamabele Community Centre with a Christmas party and graduation for the children moving on to Primary School. This year 12 children finished at Kwandwe Pre-school and will be making the transition to Fort Brown Primary School. Pre-school teachers, community centre staff and parents put a huge amount of effort into making it a very special day for the children and their families. Our graduates looked especially smart in their gowns and mortar boards (with solemn little faces as they received their certificates reflecting the gravity of the occasion!). It was great to see so many proud mothers and fathers and the support of the whole Kwandwe community for our young children and their education.
